Draw this again meme - imagination

When I first drew this (the one on the left) in 2010 I didn't quite have a grasp of arrangement and contrast. I tried to show the idea of things coming to life from a sketchbook but ran out of ideas after a tree.

In the redraw this year (jan 2013) I completely rearranged the image. I repositioned the figure so that it was on the left and moved the head tilt so that it was opposite. I also changed the expression, this is meant to be an image of the imagination coming to life, the slightly sad look of the first image doesn't fit. Rather than having water run off the paper I spiraled the pictures out from the edge of the sketchbook (sadly cut off by my scanner) and filled it with a bit more wondrous subject matter. The hand and paintbrush reinforcing the idea its all from the imagination of the artist who the image spirals around.
